Membership and Audition Requirements:

Auditions and registrations are scheduled Southern Rhode Island at the South Kingstown Neighborhood Guild. and will be starting on Tuesday - September 9 2008. Auditions are also scheduled at the Orchard Church in Cranston, by appointment through October 2008. Call 401-556-3883 to arrange an audition time and have a registration form mailed to you. Sessions in Cranston commence on Saturday-September 6, 2008.
Auditon Requirements:
"My Country 'Tis of Thee" - various keys for range, tone, and pitch accuracy
Singers will also be asked to 'echo' other vocal responses.
Average range is between Ab below Middle C -- F# above 3rd Space C
PLEASE REFER TO THE NEW CALENDAR for specific Ocean State Children's Choir dates. (Click on the NEXT button at the top of this page.) Auditions for the Fall will start in June and run through the summer. Our next spring season will start in February 2009. Please call for an appointment.
There will be approximately eighty hours of professional instruction scheduled for Ocean State Children's Choir. Rehearsals will start promptly at 4:00 on Tuesdays afternoons in South Kingtown and 9:30 a.m.on Saturday mornings. Adult supervision will be provided. Singers should be in their seats ready to rehearse. (Report to attendance person upon arrival..) All singers will have their music and a pencil at all rehearsals. Rehearsals will end at the designated times. Drivers should be ready to pick up at 11:55 on Saturdays and/or 5:55 on Tuesday afternoons.- Please do not be late. Excessive absenteeism is handled individually.
Directions to the Orchard Church -- from 95 N/S or 295 N/S take the Rt 37 exit to Natick Ave. Left on Natick to the light. Left at the light on to Wilbur Ave, and to Oaklawn Ave. Left on Oaklawn Avenue (Route 5 North) about a mile and a half to the Orchard Church.... across the street from the Greek Orthodox Church.
Directions to South Kingstown site -- take Tower Hill Road to Main Street - Wakefield. In the center of Wakefield take Columbia Street north past South Kingstown High School, and past the church. The South Kingstown Neighborhood Guild will be on the right just after the church.
Tuition: Full Tuition September through June- One Singer $385 Second Singer $350
Partial Season (January-June) One Singer - $285, Second Singer $250.
Payments -- Feb 2 -- $185 Mar 2 $100.
Payment in Full in September or Sept -$200, Oct - $100, Nov 1 - Balance.
Ocean State Children's Choir Audition:
Auditions are scheduled by appointment from June through September, and January thru February. The actual audition is a learning experience for the child and the parents alike. Great care is taken to assure that the audition will be both positive and growthful. Parents are asked to be be present during the audition. In this way the director is able to explain to the parents just for what he is listening and utilize the parent's knowledge of their child as an important resource during the audition prodedure.
The audition itself is quite simple. First the parent must call (401-556-3883) to arrange an appointement. During the audition, each child will be asked to sing "My Country 'tis of Thee". The child willl also be asked to do several other vocal explorations. After listening to and appraising the child's voice, the director will discuss both the time and financial commitments involved with membership in the Ocean State Children's Choir. Please do not let the inablility to pay prevent you from arranging an audition. Details can be addressed after the audition.
